|Commentary:|| Mr. Fuller of the Ginn and Company sent a compliment to Schoonover in a letter dated August 14, 1924. He wrote: “The pioneer painting arrived safely, and we are very much pleased with it. Considering the elements that we wanted shown in this picture, you have certainly achieved a very satisfactory composition. We may possibly want to ask you to make one or two slight changes; but before doing so we are going to send the painting to the authors for their comments. If you will send us the bill, we shall be glad to approve it before these further changes are made, however.”
Schoonover wrote a note about his response on the bottom of the letter: “Answer Aug. 16 saying usual price of $250 with eventual return of original. Pub. to take all risks if original is held for display purposes.” (archives, correspondence)
