Commentary: This painting was the last major oil that Schoonover created for the series for The Scarlet Cockerel. He made a sketch in graphite, a watercolor sketch, and finally drew in the picture on canvas on May 22 and 23 in the evening in the studio and then at home, at night. He finished on May 27 and 29 working both at the studio and at home. (archives) For further commentary, see #1832.
