Commentary: After the birth of his first grandchild, Louise Randall Schoonover, the artist designed and painted this collection of three books. In addition to the small white one for Louise, he included books for Cortlandt and his wife, Henrietta. In 1959, the artist penciled in books for Louise’s younger brothers, John Randall Schoonover and Cortlandt Schoonover, Jr., but never completed the update.
