Commentary: While Schoonover painted en plein air along the Delaware River, his daughter, Elizabeth (Biz), sometimes swam nearby at Sandy Beach and the artist included her in sketches and finished landscapes. Biz and her boat, the ‘Bizzy Lou,’ are seen in this charcoal drawing.
When the artist put this work on exhibition for sale at the Warehouse Gallery in Arden, Delaware in 1961, it didn’t sell. He gave it to Biz as a gift. (achives)
Provenance: Given by artist to Elizabeth Schoonover Cobb; Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Florida. Gift of Elizabeth Schoonover Cobb [1993]
