(2495a) Brandywine in Spring

2495a
Brandywine in Spring
FES Title:
[no entry in day books – assigned number]
Alternate Titles:
Date: 04/1958
Size: 16″H x 20″W
Medium: oil on canvas board
Type: landscape
Published: Matuszewski, Barbara Bell. Bounty on the Brandywine. Wilmington, DE: The Middle Atlantic Press, 1988: frontispiece.
caption: Brandywine in Spring
Inscription: lr: Frank E. Schoonover 1958
Annotations: en verso: 16×20 April 1959
en verso on card on lower frame: Edward S. Rutkowski
Exhibitions: 1958 JW (title unverified); 1996 Bounty
Comments: digital 6-05 Florida trip; index
Commentary: Schoonover’s palette continues to lighten in this landscape. His brush strokes and use of light reflect evidence of Impressionism.
This painting was probably finished in April 1958, the year indicated in the inscription. The 1959 en verso of the painting is probably in error as the work was exhibited in 1958.
Provenance: Sold by artist to Barbara Matuszewski, Stuart, Florida; private collection [2006]
