Commentary: “The portrait of this figure emerges wraith-like from the somber, muted background. Schoonover effectively paints the translucent shawl covering the figure’s shoulders, indicating a mastery of glazing technique not previously evident…and the artist has made a more successful attempt at chiaroscuro.” (Drexel University Museum, 38)
