Commentary: Although there is no available image, it is clear that this painting was completed. However, it may never have been published and no image has been located. Evidently there was a concern with the feeling conveyed by the subjects in the painting as indicated in a letter to Schoonover dated May 7, 1909.
In it, Mr. Southwick of Street and Finney writes, “In the bank robbery picture they
[the Savage people] think the down cast look of the robber, which brings his hat brim over his face, makes it very indefinite as to what he has done or is about to do.” (archives)
