Commentary: Schoonover traveled to New Hampshire in September of 1942 and, as usual, took his sketching and painting materials with him. While there, he rendered two landscapes of Franconia Notch. He had seen this area before because it was close to Lake Winnepausaukee where his son, Pat, attended summer camp, so he made this return trip to capture the colors on canvas. (day books, archives)
