Commentary: Schoonover chose certain farms and homes in the Pike County area in Pennsylvania to feature in his landscapes, often painting several views of the property. This is the first in his ‘Mad Bensley’s Farm’ series. This farm was located in the hills between Bushkill and Dingman’s Ferry. Schoonover painted three additional views of the farm and environs: #2361, #2382 and #2472.
Unlike most of his work, Schoonover used a palette knife on this landscape. (day books) For further commentary, see #2382.
