Commentary: Beaver Valley is the area north of Wilmington, Delaware that includes Beaver Creek, a tributary of the Brandywine River. In October 1956, Schoonover chose to paint this fall scene and in his notes, he recounts the process of landscape development. He wrote: “Oct. 17th = Study of composition – no work on canvas. 18th = Sketch in charcoal. 21st = 2 hours – some color layers. 23rd = Aft. wonderful day – golden color. Oct. – a few hours in the studio.” (day books)
The completed landscape was bought by his art student, Rose Koffler at the exhibition is 1956.
