Commentary: “Stylistically, ‘Graveyard’ is more sophisticated than the earlier ‘Lily Pond’ (#sw27)…Schoonover begins to develop the clothed figure in a more realistic fashion…
[he] renders the shifting patterns of light and shade by means of a wide range of tonal values, including white highlights, over the dappled landscape in a convincing fashion…this charcoal…represents a significant turning point in Schoonover’s training and in his ability to manipulate composition.” (Drexel University Museum, 43)
